18E044   Plants Breathe: How Does It Affect Weather and Air Pollution?

Plant breathing provides a tremendous significance to our climate. In daytime, plants breathe in carbon dioxide (CO2) and breathe out Oxygen during photosynthesis, which reduces atmospheric CO2 level. Water absorbed from roots will be evaporated in leaves, and reduces atmospheric temperature. Plant breathing can also reduce air pollutants. This lecture explores the mechanisms of these processes shaping the climate and air quality of our living areas, and how we can manage urban and rural trees for sustainable development.
